Binyeo made by soomi jeong

October 14, 2009

I made “Binyeo” using a chopstick and earrings.

Chopsticks are small tapered sticks as the traditional eating utensils of some Asian contries. I use it everyday. So it suddenly occurred to me that I would make Binyeo using it. So I decided to make Binyeo and made it!

I will tell you the process of making Binyeo by chopsticks and earrings. It’s quite simple.

First, I peeled off a chopstick. ( I used just a chopstick, not pair) and painted it dark brown, then glued earrings onto the chopstick.

There is some information that helps you understand about Binyeo.

Binyeo is a traditional ornamental hairpin found in Korea, best known in its shape of a long stick. It can also be found in China and Japan. While Japanese Binyeo is different in that it is made of two sticks, Chinese and Korean ones are quite similar. However, they both have been adapted differently according to each country’s common hairstyle.

Binyeo can still be found today and has also been introduced in the western world. Since then, it has been a symbol of the Orient and a fashionable hairpin. Following the flow of time, it is made with modern materials such as plastics, wood and imitation diamonds, and it is especially popular in hot summer. Modified according to time, Binyeo has taken a place in today’s fashion.
